In March, runDisney announced the return of its Virtual Running Shorts series – and oh boy, is it incredible!
Virtual Running Shorts were first introduced in 2016 by runDisney to allow runners (and walkers) to participate in a series of three, Disney-themed, 5K races from anywhere in the world. runDisney encourages participants to create their own 3.1 mile course – through their neighborhood, their (other) favorite vacation spot, or even on the treadmill! While panned by some runDisney purists, these virtual races have become very popular among Disney fans, and participation continues to grow.
The virtual series kicks off in June and runs through August and includes three separate races, each with a different finisher medal highlighting, you guessed it, the characters from your favorite super-family and mine, The Incredibles! Registration for each virtual 5K is $40 and includes the following:
- 3.1-mile run on course of runner’s choosing
- Enjoy the running playlist on Spotify from Walt Disney Records
- Share your experiences at #runDisneyShorts
- Commemorative Medal (June: Elastigirl, July: Mr. Incredible and Violet, August: Dash & Jack Jack)
- Magnet Frame
- Downloadable Race Bib
- Downloadable Finisher Certificate
But wait, there’s more! (Of course there is, this is Disney!)
As in other runDisney races, this virtual series offers participants the opportunity to maximize their experience by participating in the Virtual Running Shorts Challenge. Runners who register for this challenge and complete all three 5K races between June 1 and August 31 will also receive the Virtual Running Shorts Series Finisher Medal in addition to the other three medals for June, July, and August. Registration for the Challenge is $142 and includes the following:
- Commemorative Incredibles Series Finisher Medal, in addition to the June, July, and August Finisher Medals
- Magnet Frame
- Resistance Band
- Hot/Cold Gel Pack
- Downloadable Race Bib
- Downloadable Finisher Certificate
The Incredibles Virtual Running Shorts series will celebrate the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, and runDisney will make an independent donation to the Clubs in honor of the Virtual Running Shorts. Runners will also have the opportunity to make a donation to this worthy cause during race registration.
Registration dates haven’t been released yet, but stayed tuned! Once available, you can register for this series, as well as other runDisney races, on the runDisney website.
All I can say is, “Where is my super-suit!!!??”
